So, while the Trump administration and the Federal Reserve didn't repeal bank capital requirements altogether last week, the Fed's vote to reduce capital requirements 2.4% for the largest banks is a step in the right, market-oriented direction. The dollar amount expectation for the big banks is that with the reduction, they'll be able to hold around $20 billion less than they already do. Put another way, rather than banks being forced to put tens of billions aside in the proverbial coffee can of “no-risk” or light-risk assets, banks can now put tens of billions to work in the real economy
