A Fox-News Corp Reunion Just Isn't In The Cards Getty Former corporate siblings Fox and News Corp. which split in 2013 under pressure from investors aren’t planning on reuniting though media tycoon Rupert Murdoch had hinted a merger was a possibility as recently as December 2017. Addressing Fox’s investor day, Fox Chief Executive Lachlan Murdoch, one of Rupert's sons, said he sees “ no benefit to reversing those actions” $71.3 billion sale of its entertainment assets including the famous 20th Century Fox film and TV studios to Walt Disney. Merging a television business like Fox with a newspaper/book publishing enterprise like News Corp. was a bad idea for many reasons, not the least of which is that it probably wouldn't save that much money. The Murdochs put its faster-growing businesses like Fox News Channel in 21st Century Fox (now called Fox Corp) and its slower-growing publishing assets like the Wall Street Journal into News Corp.
