“He never entered the portal here,” Purdue coach Barry Odom told reporters on Jan. 23, 10 days after Porath's surprise announcement on social media. “It's amazing how that works.” Asked Wednesday, Feb. 18 about Odom's confusion and what was different about Porath's path to South Bend, the junior kicker from Brownsburg played it straight. “I was really pursuing an academic opportunity here,” Porath said. “Obviously, Notre Dame is a great school. I got accepted to (business) school here and kind of went from there.” A finance major, Porath said the Mendoza College of Business was the primary draw for the 6-foot, 200-pounder. His father Kevin, who specializes in human resources and talent acquisition, holds a 2003 master's degree from Purdue's Daniels School of Business.
