The Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) Index, the Federal Reserve's preferred inflation gauge, rose 2.7% in August, slightly up from 2.6% in July; however, the core PCE Index (excluding food and energy) rose to 2.9% year over year. The Consumer Sentiment Index fell for the third month in a row in September to 55.1, lower than expected, mostly due to tariffs and high prices. Personal income rose by 0.4% and personal consumption expenditures increased by 0.6% in August, indicating continued consumer resilience.
