reconsolidation of vehicle assembly under the auto import tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump. The Detroit automaker confirmed Jan. 22 that it plans to onshore manufacturing of the compact SUV to Fairfax Assembly in Kansas City, Kansas. GM has made the Buick Envision in China for the North American market since 2017. Fairfax Assembly currently produces the all-electric Chevrolet Bolt, but will do so for a limited run . The plant is slated to begin production of the gas-powered Chevrolet Equinox in 2027. When the Envision is added, it will be on a shared platform as the Equinox. “This decision further strengthens GM's domestic manufacturing footprint and supports U.S. jobs, building on $5.5 billion in new investments announced across our U.S. manufacturing sites in the last year,” GM spokesman Kevin Kelly said in an emailed statement.
