The company buys thousands of cars a year, but are drivers getting good deals on their used cars USA TODAY Cars interviewed Dave Unice, CarMax's Vice President of Merchandising Operations, to get to the bottom of the appraisal process. Here's what we learned about how the company calculates its used car offers. How CarMax appraises used car models CarMax's goal is to "provide a fair data-driven offer based on your vehicle's condition and market demand," says Unice. If you start the appraisal process online, "you'll receive an offer in two minutes or less, valid for seven days, giving you time to compare options and make the best decision for you."
