AFP via Getty Images Sony has added its name to the growing list of automotive false starts by giant non-automotive companies, after shelving its first two electric vehicles it had planned for North America. The two Afeela EVs from the Sony Honda Mobility brand have fallen foul of the same problems that hit Honda and forced it to swallow $18.5 billion in charges and losses, including tariffs, slow demand in Asia and broader consumer indifference to EVs. Sony has now joined an exclusive club of highly successful consumer-product brands that have tried and failed to succeed in mass-volume car production. That club includes Apple, with its on-again, off-again extravaganza, Dyson and electronics giant Samsung.
