Jan. 21, 2026, 5:30 p.m. ET Midsize pickup trucks like the Honda Ridgeline and Toyota Tacoma are no longer the smallest truck options on the market. Thanks to Ford and Hyundai, there are two truck models that are even smaller than the average midsize truck model. They're also more affordable. These trucks allow drivers to experience pickup truck ownership without paying high prices. Furthermore, smaller trucks can be much easier to maneuver and park in cities than midsize and full-size models. The Ford Maverick and Hyundai Santa Cruz small trucks are relatively new, but they've been around long enough for some models to hit the used car market. Full-size pickup truck models like the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Ram 1500 and Ford F-150 may be sales leaders for the pickup truck vehicle class, but Ford and Hyundai have created a new niche segment where first-time truck buyers are enticed by smaller, more affordable models.
