Shares of Kraft Heinz Co. rose 1.3% in premarket trading Thursday, after the food and beverage company beat profit and sales expectations, helped by increased consumer demand related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Net income fell to $378 million, or 31 cents a share, from $405 million, or 33 cents a share, in the year-ago period. Excluding non-recurring items, adjusted earnings per share declined to 58 cents from 66 cents but was above the FactSet consensus of 54 cents. Sales rose 3.3% to $6.16 billion, above the FactSet consensus of $6.10 billion. Pricing increased 1.6% and volume/mix rose 4.6 percentage points, as growth in at-home consumption most than offset the negative impact of retail inventory reductions. The stock has gained 2.0% over the past three months through Wednesday, while the S&P 500 has lost 10.5%.
