This article first appeared on GuruFocus Lockheed Martin ( NYSE:LMT is facing fresh scrutiny after a Pentagon testing report reportedly found that a major software upgrade for the F-35 fighter jet made little progress last year. According to Bloomberg, the Pentagon's testing office said the jet's latest upgrade package, known as Technology Refresh-3, ran into reliability and functionality issues during testing. The software was reportedly unusable for much of the year due to stability problems, missing features and newly discovered defects. The upgrade is a key step for the program because it is meant to significantly increase the jet's computing power, boosting processing capacity by about 37 times and expanding memory roughly 20 times compared with current systems.
