The government is not the only party complaining about Ticketmaster. Many performing artists, venues and state attorneys general are rightly concerned about the cost of entertainment ticket prices imposed by Ticketmaster. Live Nation and Ticketmaster were once competitors but they merged in 2010. They control the majority of ticket sales for concerts, sporting events and more. Most venues can't market or administer the sale of tickets for a variety of reasons. The majority of tickets are sold on the Internet. Ticketmaster sold 646 million tickets last year. The settlement does not achieve what the government was seeking. That's a separation of the two giant ticket retailers. In announcing the settlement last week, the government says it will give more control to artists and venues more choices when it comes to selling tickets to music fans. Critics say this is far from meaningful changes needed. The critics are right. Live Nation still has a monopoly on controlling ticket sales
