Related news Investors showed their disappointment with a swift sell-off in stocks today right after the Federal Reserve decided to push up short-term interest rates by another quarter point. The Dow Jones industrial average hacked a nearly 1% gain right before the announcement to a loss of more than 1%. The Nasdaq composite's 1.2% midday advance evaporated in a matter of minutes after the U.S. central bank ratcheted the fed funds rate up to a 2.25%-2.5% target range . That marks the Fed's ninth quarter-point hike since December 2015. The Nasdaq dropped more than 2% with roughly an hour to go in the session. The S&P 500 slumped around 1.5%. Volume is running slightly higher vs. the same time Tuesday on the Nasdaq and roughly flat on the NYSE.
