McDonald's ( NYSE:MCD ) is finding that viral momentum may not be enough to drive sustained demand, even when it delivers a meaningful spike in brand visibility. A widely shared video of Chief Executive Christopher Kempczinski eating the company's Big Arch burger circulated across social media and was estimated by one advertising consultancy to have generated about $18 million in brand value in March alone. Despite that exposure, early operating data suggests the response on the ground has been more measured, with Placer.ai reporting foot traffic increased 2.2% during the week of the burger's U.S. launch on March 3.
