So when Solomon talks about his bank entering a phase dubbed “One Goldman Sachs 3.0” it is easy to zone out. Yet this new era might be the most noteworthy of his three acts as chief executive. The previous One Goldman Sachses ( GS ) basically meant getting clients to do more of their business with Goldman, or what an M&A banker might call revenue synergies. They look to have been pretty effective. Revenue per employee is up 30 per cent since 2019, the first full year of Solomon's reign. Morgan Stanley's ( MS ) is up 24 per cent over the same period. This third incarnation essentially involves turning Goldman into a tech company. Solomon wants AI to reshape how the company works, from handling paperwork around new clients to preparing tomes of regulatory data. Bankers can spend more time with their “feet on the ground”.
