During his presentation at the J.P. Morgan Healthcare Conference on Tuesday, Doustdar acknowledged that while international markets represent the company's biggest long-term volume opportunity for its weight-loss and diabetes franchise, the company expects near-term pressure as competitors enter markets where Novo has traditionally maintained high market share. "When you have a very high market share, competition will take some of that share away," Doustdar said, noting that the company could face "a difficult year" due to exclusivity expiration in parts of its international portfolio. The CEO explained that Novo Nordisk, which operates in approximately 80 to 85 markets through local affiliates, remains structurally well positioned outside the United States. However, the company must adapt to an evolving obesity market where cross-border and online sales are becoming easier.
