OneMain Financial, accusing the company of charging consumers nationwide millions of dollars in hidden fees and interest. The lawsuit claims the non-prime installment lender marketed loans with “clear, upfront terms” but added insurance policies and other add-on products to borrowers' loans without their consent or knowledge, increasing costs by hundreds or even thousands of dollars. State officials say the company rushed consumers through complex loan documents, obscured key terms in dense fine print and in some cases charged borrowers for products they rejected. OneMain strongly disputed the allegations, saying the claims are “simply untrue” and arguing the lawsuit attempts to revisit issues already reviewed and resolved by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. The company said it operates transparently and in compliance with the law and plans to fight the case in court.
