The 33rd edition of the California Mille, a 1,000-mile four-day rally through some of the Golden State's most scenic roads, began Monday with 70 classic cars leaving the coastal city of La Jolla and ending at the desert resort community of Rancho Mirage. The excursion of vintage and luxury automobiles is modeled after the Mille Miglia open road rally from Brescia to Rome. Chopard has been a sponsor of the Italian rally since 1988. Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, Chopard's co-director, and an avid vintage car collector, has participated in the Italian rally with one of his own classic cars for almost as long. So, it is fitting that the Swiss luxury brand would also be the “Official Timekeeper” of the California Mille through a partnership with the owner of the rally, Hagerty, an automotive lifestyle company that provides insurance for classic vehicles.
