Australian airline Qantas on Thursday reported a marginal rise in net profit for the first half of the fiscal year, while pre-tax profit slipped despite higher revenues. Net profit attributable to shareholders edged up 0.2% to A$925 million ($658 million) from A$923 million a year earlier. Earnings per share rose to 60.8 cents from 59.2 cents. Profit before tax declined 1% to A$1.307 billion from A$1.320 billion. On an underlying basis, performance improved. Underlying profit before tax increased to A$1.46 billion from A$1.39 billion last year, while underlying EBIT rose 5% year-on-year to A$1.59 billion. Revenue and other income climbed 6.3% to A$12.90 billion from A$12.13 billion, supported by a 6% increase in net passenger revenue to A$11.06 billion. Group capacity, measured in available seat kilometres, grew 4%, driven by expansion across both domestic and international operations.
