More than $1tn in foreign investment has left Canada over the past decade. Prime Minister Mark Carney is betting a high-profile Toronto summit can help flip that script and unlock $1tn in new capital. According to the Prime Minister's Office, the first-ever Canada Investment Summit will run September 14–15, 2026, in Toronto and aims to catalyse $1tn in total investment over the next five years to advance “nation-building projects” and build a “stronger, more independent, more resilient economy.” The federal government will host the summit with the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPP Investments) and the Public Sector Pension Investment Board (PSP Investments), two of Canada's largest institutional investors The New York Times reports that Prime Minister Mark Carney plans to host a meeting of investors and executives in September, aiming to draw $1tn in investment into Canada.
