Boston Beer Co. shares fell 8.5% in the extended session Wednesday after the company missed consensus estimates and recorded revenue reduction related to the coronavirus pandemic. The company reported first-quarter net income of $18.2 million, or $1.49 a share, versus net income of $23.7 million, which amounts to $2.02 a share, in the year-ago period. Revenue net of excise taxes rose to $330.6 million from $251.7 million in the year-ago period. Analysts surveyed by FactSet had estimated earnings of $1.92 a share on revenue of $347.7 million. Boston Beer withdrew its full-year 2020 guidance due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The maker of Samuel Adams Boston Lager and other beers said that thus far it has seen reduced keg demand and higher labor and safety costs. In the first quarter, Boston Beer recorded a coronavirus-related reduction in revenue of $10 million due to $5.8 million worth of keg returns, and $4.2 million in direct costs.
