A Christmas Eve storm triggered flooding that tore through the mountain community of Wrightwood, burying roads and homes in mud and debris. The incident occurred at around 7:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 26, at the resort in Northern California, according to officials. Before ski area operations were open, patrollers were performing avalanche mitigation work when the avalanche occurred on Lincoln Mountain. The patrollers who were caught in the slide were immediately taken to Mammoth Hospital. “One patroller sustained serious injuries and is being transported out of the area for further care, the second patroller is being evaluated with possible broken bones,” Mammoth officials stated.
