The Detroit Auto Show's media days kicked off with the announcement of the 2026 North American Car, Truck, and Utility Vehicle of the Year ( NACTOY )™ awards. The NACTOY jury spent the last year assiduously test-driving, researching, and evaluating new vehicles sold in North America on multiple criteria. These include automotive innovation, design, safety, performance, technology, driver satisfaction, user experience, and value. The original list was long, but semifinalists were announced in September. In November, at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the list was reduced to just nine finalists. Finally, after another round of voting, the three winners were announced in the following categories: Car of the Year, Truck of the Year, and Utility Vehicle of the Year.
