Detroit Auto Show preview: Trump, Big 3 take center stage [Yahoo! Finance]

In a somewhat surprising move, the Detroit Economic Club (DEC) announced President Trump will be speaking at the club's annual Michigan Economic Outlook meeting, scheduled for Tuesday afternoon. Trump is no stranger to the auto industry, nor the swing state of Michigan. Trump's auto sector tariffs and levies on foreign imports had the industry up in arms in early 2025, though those complaints have lessened somewhat with trade deals in place with partners such as the EU, Japan, the UK, Korea, and others. Those deals, coupled with a rollback of Biden-era emissions targets, are a welcome relief to Detroit's Big Three — Ford ( F ), GM ( GM ), and Stellantis ( STLA ) — which can sell more profitable gas-powered cars. Expect Trump to opine broadly about the auto industry, tariffs, and his preference for gas vehicles during the two-hour event.
