The Japan-based biopharmaceutical company filed a public Worker Adjustment and Retraining Act Notification (WARN) , saying it will cut more than 600 jobs across the U.S. in 2026 and 2027. These new cuts come in addition to the 137 layoffs in Massachusetts announced last fall. A spokesperson for Takeda called the new layoffs part of an "ongoing transformation to strengthen competitiveness, enhance its long-term growth profile." The company said the changes will save roughly 200 billion Japanese yen, or $1.2 million, annually, by fiscal year 2028. "These changes are designed to further standardize and simplify ways of working so we can prioritize more resources and strategic technology investments to advance our late-stage pipeline and prepare for multiple [drug] launches," the spokesperson said.
