The Federal Communications Commission and U.S. Department of Justice approved the merger last week. Just one day before the announcement that the deal had closed, a coalition of eight states, including Oregon, sued to block the buyout . Joining Oregon were California, New York, Colorado, ?Connecticut, Illinois, North Carolina, and Virginia. On Friday evening, Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser said on social media that a U.S. District Court judge issued a temporary restraining order which blocks the two companies from merger pending an April 7 hearing. The order halts Nexstar from combining stations or terminating employees. Though the same judge is considering the case brought by the states, the order was actually issued in response to a separate lawsuit filed last week by DirecTV, which alleged that the proposed sale violates federal antitrust laws and would hurt consumers by driving up prices.
