James Watt, co-founder of BrewDog, has apologised to tens of thousands of investors left out of pocket by the company's cut-price sale The entrepreneur said he was “heartbroken” by BrewDog's downfall, admitting that the craft beer business had “expanded too fast and diversified too broadly”. Growing struggles led to BrewDog, once valued at £1bn, being sold for just £33m to a US private equity firm earlier this week, leaving the 220,000 so-called “equity-punk” investors who crowdfunded the business empty-handed. It also resulted in nearly 500 job losses as the company shuttered dozens of pubs as part of a rescue by Tilray Brands, a US drinks and medical cannabis company. Posting on social media on Wednesday, Mr Watt said: “I am heartbroken for all of the hardworking and passionate team members who have lost their jobs. “I am heartbroken for all of our brilliant equity punks who did not get the return on their investment they wanted.
