John Lewis Picks Ex-Tesco UK Boss to Replace Chair Sharon White [BNN Bloomberg (Canada)]

Tarry will take over from White, who became the most high-profile Black woman in British retail when she was appointed just before the pandemic, in September. White's term, which will be the shortest in the history of the partnership, was due to end in early 2025. The owner of John Lewis department stores and upmarket grocer Waitrose said Monday that Tarry has a “proven track record” in retail after 33 years at Tesco, Britain's largest grocer. Tarry, who started at Tesco as a graduate in 1990, has covered most areas of the business from grocery to general merchandise and fashion. Tarry will take charge of a retailer that has been trying to turn around its performance for the past few years in a highly competitive UK market where it's struggled to balance the competing demands of physical and online retail.
