a fresh layer of uncertainty to a company still grappling with strategic and financial challenges, despite hopes for renewed momentum under new leadership. BP announced Thursday that it will appoint current Woodside Energy CEO Meg O'Neill as chief executive from April 2026. Kuplent believes investors are likely to be positive regarding an external appointment; however, he “fears near-term uncertainty over BP's restructuring progress.” Until O'Neill's arrival, Carol Howle will serve as interim CEO, while Murray Auchincloss will remain in an advisory role to support what BP described as “a smooth transition,” according to BofA. BofA framed the leadership change as the latest step in a broader reset. The analyst feels investors may balance “hope for accelerated self-help momentum containing more radical restructuring” against concerns about BP's future direction.
