Shell faces £500m hit after Iran strike hits energy giant's ‘crown jewel' [Yahoo! Finance]

Shell is facing a hit of up to $750m (£560m) after an Iranian missile strike on its “crown jewel” gas plant in Qatar. The Pearl GTL plant in the Ras ?Laffan ?Industrial City was badly damaged in an attack on Wednesday night. The facility is one of Shell's biggest earners, converting natural gas into high-purity liquid products such as jet fuel and specialised lubricants and coolants. Shell confirmed that one of the plant's two gas processing “trains” was badly damaged by the attack, with repairs expected to take about a year, but did not put an estimate of the cost of the damage. However, analysts Wood Mackenzie estimated that it contributed about $750m to Shell's revenues last year. A year of repairs puts that cash flow at risk.
