TotalEnergies has signed a preliminary 20-year agreement to purchase 2 million tons per year of LNG from the proposed Alaska LNG project, reinforcing its position as the largest exporter of U.S. liquefied natural gas and deepening its exposure to Asian markets. The company confirmed on Wednesday that it has entered into a letter of intent with Glenfarne, lead developer of the Alaska LNG project, for long-term offtake of 2 million metric tons per annum (Mtpa) of LNG, contingent on a final investment decision. The proposed Alaska LNG facility, located on the U.S. Pacific coast, is designed with a planned export capacity of 20 Mtpa and is currently the only federally authorized LNG export terminal in that region. Its Pacific orientation offers direct shipping routes to Asia, the world's largest LNG-consuming market, potentially shortening voyage times compared to U.S. Gulf Coast cargoes transiting the Panama Canal.
