Mr Train, who has managed the Finsbury Growth & Income Trust for a quarter of a century, said the UK offered less exposure to growth industries than other markets, which put off global investors. Speaking on The Master Investor Podcast with Wilfred Frost, he said: “It has resulted in those London-listed companies that are evidently world-class enterprises … being under-owned and undervalued.” Critics have described London as the “Jurassic Park” of stock exchanges because of its heavy weighting towards older industries that tend to pay generous dividends but are not known for their rapid growth. Labour has attempted to revive the stock market , committing at the Budget to introduce a three-year stamp duty holiday for newly listed companies in the UK. However, the markets remain unloved by global investors.
