As of Monday, March 9, the average price for a gallon of gas in the Golden State was $5.20, according to data from the American Automobile Association. “Yesterday, it was $5.15. A week ago, it was $4.65 and just last month it was $4.47,” said Kandace Redd, senior public affairs specialist with the Auto Club of Southern California said. “So gas prices jumped 5 cents overnight and 73 cents in just a month.” This time last year, the statewide average was $4.71, Redd said, adding that the record high for California was $6.43 in June 2022. Conflict in Iran driving gas prices up “Gas prices are increasing nationwide as markets react to the conflict in Iran ,” Redd said.
