The restaurant at 1616 University Blvd. S. is the latest of several area locations of the Dublin, Ohio-based burger chain to shut its doors abruptly in Northeast Florida. The Wendy's sign was being taken off the restaurant April 16. The location was gone from the chain's website. And Google on April 18 showed that the location was "permanently closed." Wen South LLC of Grand Rapids, Mich., is listed on state records as the current franchise owner of the restaurant. The company was identified as the owner on a state food service license issued April 15, 2009, for that location. The license status is listed as "active," according to Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) online records on April 18. DBPR licensing records also show that Wendy's dates back at least to 1997, when it had a previous franchise owner. Neither Wendy's nor Wen South officials could be reached immediately for comment.
