The company said on Thursday that it will shutter about 300 underperforming locations across the U.S. by the end of 2027, USA Today reported. The announcement comes as the company revealed its same-store sales fell by 5.4 in the fourth quarter and were down 2.5 percent over the past year. It did see a 1 percent increase in international sales. Chief Financial Officer Ravi Thanawala said during a recent earnings call that the mostly franchisee-owned stores “are not meeting brand expectations or lack a clear path to sustainable financial improvement, as well as locations where we can effectively transfer sales to a nearby restaurant.” The company has not announced yet which specific stores will be closing. “We are taking action to better align corporate and field resources with our transformation priorities and optimize spans and layers in our organizations,” Papa John's CEO Todd Penegor said during the call.
