HOCHTIEF, a German construction company, has secured a contract to design and expand a 26km segment of the East Link railway near Stockholm, Sweden. The project, in partnership with the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket), carries an estimated value of up to approximately €900m ($1.04bn). Construction is expected to continue until 2034. The section, called OL31 Vagnhärad, sits southwest of Stockholm and forms part of the planned 160km double-track East Link connection between Järna and Linköping. According to Trafikverket, the East Link is Sweden's largest infrastructure investment in recent history. The scope of work includes the design and construction of several tunnels, large bridges, and a train station.
