the leading scorers in school history, Jamal Mashburn joined the NBA. In the 1993 NBA draft, he was selected by the Dallas Mavericks as the fourth overall pick. Mashburn was a 6'9" point forward who could do a little bit of everything on the court, which made him one of the most skilled players in the league. Due to his only single All-Star appearance in 2003, which earned him an All-NBA Third Team selection, he was underrated for most of his career. Mashburn's 12-year career was ultimately cut short by chronic knee issues, which led him to retire in 2006. During his time in the league, he played for the Mavericks, Miami Heat, Charlotte Hornets and New Orleans Pelicans, earning over $75 million. Although most would consider the amount more than enough for a comfortable life, Mashburn thought otherwise.
