The recall was issued on Feb. 17 for approximately 24,690 vehicles. According to Ford, there is a manufacturing defect in one or more of the high-voltage battery cells that may cause an internal short circuit and battery failure. Ford said if the recalled vehicles malfunction while driving, the vehicle propulsion system will be shut down and a red "Stop Safely Now" message will display. The recall is an extension of a November 2025 recall for 20,558 vehicles due to the same issue There have been no reports of issues as of February 2026, Ford said. The recall comes nearly six months after Ford announced plans to discontinue the Ford Escape and Lincoln Corsair. The Michigan-based manufacturer plans to repurpose its Louisville Assembly Plant, where the Escape and Corsair are built, to make a new, midsize, all-electric pickup truck, according to reporting from the Detroit Free Press, part of the USA TODAY Network.
