General Motors Co. said Wednesday it is working with "speed and urgency" with Ventec Life Systems to produce ventilators for patients suffering from the coronavirus. The work is part of its contract with the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services and comes after President Donald Trump invoked the Defense Production Act to make U.S. manufacturers help make up the shortfall in medical equipment during the pandemic. GM shares were up 0.9% premarket, but have fallen 42% in the year to date, while the S&P 500 has fallen 18%.
