A US cannabis producer has emerged as the frontrunner to buy BrewDog, as a race to decide the future of the debt-ridden craft beer giant nears its end. New York city-based Tilray Brands, which makes medicinal marijuana, is understood to be among the leading contenders to take control of BrewDog. Tilray has been diversifying beyond cannabis in recent years with the takeovers of several craft breweries and brands from the world's beer giants. In 2023, it bought eight craft beer brands from Anheuser-Busch, the maker of Budweiser. The following year, it bought four US breweries from Molson Coors. Tilray's involvement was first reported by industry publication The Morning Advertiser. James Watt, the founder of BrewDog, together with C&C Group, the London-listed drinks company behind Bulmers and Magners, and Royal Unibrew, the Danish brewing business, have also submitted bids. BrewDog has closed all of its bars for the day before an expected announcement about the winning offer. Show less Read more
