5 December 2025: First-Time Buyer Affordability At 10-Year High The housing market stagnated in November as fears of tax hikes in the lead-up to the deterred potential buyers, writes Laura Howard House prices in the UK showed zero growth last month, following a 0.5% rise in October, according to Halifax, the country's largest mortgage lender. Average values are 0.7% higher compared to November last year, down from the 1.9% annual rise posted in October. It marks the weakest annual growth since March 2024. However, with the average home now costing just shy of £300,000 (£299,892), UK property values are still at a record high, said the lender. Amanda Bryden, head of mortgages at Halifax, said: “The consistency in average prices reflects what has been one of the most stable years for the housing market over the last decade. Even with the changes to stamp duty back in spring and some uncertainty ahead of the Autumn Budget, property values have remained steady.” Slower growth
